About Us

Hit and Run: Musical Improv is Colorado’s ONLY improvised musical!  Based on one or more suggestions from the audience, HNR creates a fully improvised and unscripted musical with live accompaniment, complete with a rich storyline, weird characters, “dance” numbers, complex harmonies, and annoyingly catchy songs.  By the end of the show, you’ll swear we didn’t make it up on the spot… but we did!

HNR started in Los Angeles in the summer of 2006, and has since expanded to two separate casts in the Denver, CO and Los Angeles, CA areas.  With combined training from iO West, Bang Studio, Groundlings and Second City in Hollywood, iO in Chicago, the Bovine Metropolis Theater in Denver and many other schools of improv, including performing with and training under Michael Pollock and Shulie Cowen of Opening Night: The Improvised Musical!, HNR has performed hundreds of improvised musicals and on-the-spot songs for thousands of audience members across the country.  Our shows and many of our songs are available for free via our podcast.

The cast of HNR has been featured in several national commercials, TV shows, web videos, cartoons, and even puppet shows.  Credits include National Treasure with Nicolas Cage, Kicking & Screaming with Will Ferrell, Will & Grace, Monster-In-Law with Jennifer Lopez, and CSI Miami with David Caruso.

HNR was named a Top Weekend Pick by the Rocky Mountain News, and called “hilarious” by the UCD Advocate, “kick-ass” by the Colorado Springs Gazette, and “the newest thing in live, laugh-out-loud shows” by Colorado Daily.

Our show is awesome because it will make you laugh, and maybe you’ll learn something at the end. Our shows have also included flying dragons, decapitations, the invention of guacamole, a five-person Kraken, gluten intolerance, an embarrassed scarecrow, and Winston Churchill, and how many improvised shows can say that? That’s right, zero.
