I just finished compiling all of the Ancient History blog posts from my old blog, and looking over some of them.  It’s weird for me to look over the last few years of HNR history, and at the same time think of where the group is now.

I’ve been improvising for about five years now, which isn’t that long at all in the scheme of things.  And I’ve been improvising musically for even less time.  I started with nothing but a desire to make up songs and an assumption that I would have to make that a reality on my own, because no one else would do it for me.  HNR’s original incarnation came together in the summer of 2006 (named after some asshole that rear-ended my car into a stop sign during rehearsal and was never caught), and over the course of the next three years, we lost a total of eleven members and gained a total of seven others.

HNR: A History, Part 27

Well, three months without updating is better than seven months, right? =P

Lots of things to think about recently. HNR is going through some growing pains, and I started coaching another musical improv group that’s just getting off the ground, so between work, improv and Dinner Detective shows I’m lucky to get seven hours of sleep a night. GTA4 isn’t really helping either.

HNR had its first show in six months last Thursday. It was a solid performance, but I think our collective skills were hampered by technical glitches, venue issues, and the nerves that come with being part of a new group. This was technically our second show with the new lineup, our first being the corporate show back in April. It was our first go at a longform musical.
